On March 21, 2008, the day of Newroz, the Syrian regime killed three and injured many Syrian Kurds in Qamishli. The Kurds have responded with protests in various areas of Western Kurdistan, which has led to further increase of security and moving thousands of military forces to Aleppo , Qamishli, Hasakah, Terba-spi and Efrin.
We at the Kurdish National Congress of North America condemn the violence and assault of Syrian regime on the people in Western Kurdistan and demand the immediate withdrawal of all Syrian forces from the region.
We expect from the United Sates, European Union, and the rest of the free world to pressure the Syrian government, the second Ba’ath regime, to take serious measures in democratizing the country so the both main nationalities in Syria, Arabs and Kurds, could enjoy freedom and equality.
At the same time we would like to encourage the Kurdish people in Syria to do everything in their capacity to obtain their natural right of self determination with peaceful means.
